Frequently Asked Questions

What to Expect:

Q.  I'd like to see a counselor. What is the process for setting up a session?

  1. Reach out to us via phone, text, email, or through our convenient contact form on this site. One of our counselors should get back to you within 24-48 hours.
  2. We'll have a conversation, hear a little bit more about what issue you're dealing with and what you're hoping to get out of counseling, and answer any questions you might have.
  3. If it seems like we're a good fit for your needs, the next step will be to schedule a first session.
  4. Your counselor will give you instructions about filling out forms to bring with you to the first session.

Q.  How long are your sessions?

A.  Most sessions are 50-60 minutes long. There are a few exceptions to this. Sometimes a counselor will schedule 90-minute sessions for couple or family counseling. Or at times a counselor will schedule 30-minute sessions for a child. Fees will be adjusted accordingly.

Q.  How frequently would I come in?

A.  One session a week is typical. Other arrangements would be made directly with your counselor.

Q.  I'm looking for Christian counseling. Are all of you Christians?

A.  Yes, we are all Christians, and we all earned our degrees at Christian seminaries. If you are looking for someone who understands the Christian faith from the inside, and who affirms biblical values, you've come to the right place!

Q.  What if I want to see you, but I'm not a Christian?

A.  We see clients of a wide variety of faiths or with no formal faith.  We respect all people, no matter their background, and are sensitive to every individual's needs. We would love to work with you!

Payments, Fees & Insurance:

Q.  How much do you charge per session?

A.  The cost per session varies. We offer a sliding scale based on annual household income. (The sliding scale may vary depending on which counselor you're seeing.)

Q.  What if I can't afford the sliding scale rate for my income level?

A.  Thanks to donor support, we are able to offer scholarships on a limited basis for people who can't afford the sliding scale rate. Any lowered fees are approved for a predetermined number of sessions (usually 10-15), and then will be reviewed to make sure we still have funding to continue to offer the lower rate. Requests for scholarships are available at the bottom of our Sliding Scale Form.

Q.  Do you take credit cards?

A.  Yes, we accept cash, check or any major credit card.

Q.  Do you take insurance?

A.  None of our counselors are "in network" with any insurance providers. However, IF you have a PPO that allows you to go "Out of Network" for mental health treatment, our counselors might be able to provide you with documentation (called a superbill) that you would submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement of your sessions. You would still pay your counselor out of pocket at the time of your session.

If you want to pursue this option, we encourage you to call your insurance company in advance of any sessions to verify your benefits and determine what they will and will not cover. Then please speak with us further if you would like to explore this option.

Do you have other questions that aren't covered here?

We would be happy to talk with you further.
